THE KIND OF FUCKING STUPID ONLY DEMOCRATS ARE CAPABLE OF

In New Jersey a female congresswoman wants to ban all penalties for drug use.

That’s right. ALL DRUGS.

Go read their rationale and how they equate Nixon’s “War on Drugs” with the opioid so-called crisis we have today.

Somehow Nixon demanding people go to jail for illegal drugs caused even more illegal drug use and ever increasingly powerful drugs to be made.

Yep! Brilliant! Stupid cunt.

New Jersey Rep. Bonnie Watson Coleman on Tuesday announced legislation to remove federal criminal penalties for all drug use — including marijuana and other drugs such as heroin and cocaine.

At a time when lawmakers in both houses are seeking to end the federal ban on cannabis, Watson Coleman, D-12th Dist., would go even farther.

Watson Coleman and her co-sponsor, Rep. Cori Bush, D-Mo. announced their bill two days before the 50th anniversary of Richard Nixon’s announcement of a “war on drugs.”

Begun “as a cynical political tactic of the Nixon administration, the War on Drugs destroyed the lives of countless Americans and their families,” Watson Coleman said. “As we work to address the opioid epidemic, it is essential that we change tactics in how we address drug use, away from the failed punitive approach to a health-based and evidence-based approach.”

Her legislation would shift federal drug policy to the Department of Health and Human Services from the Justice Department, expunge convictions and allow judges to re-sentence individuals convicted of drug possession.

The legislation would encourage states to also decriminalize drugs by threatening to withhold some federal law enforcement grants.

People convicted of drug possession would be allowed to receive federal benefits such as food stamps, could not be deported, would not be denied the right to vote, and would be allowed to obtain drivers’ licenses.

And it would set up a commission under HHS to determine the amount of drugs a person can have for personal use rather than being accused of being a dealer.

The drug war disproportionately affected minority communities. For example, Blacks are almost four times more likely to be arrested than whites, even though they use marijuana at the same rate, U.S. Sen. Cory Booker has said.

The proposal already faces opposition in Congress.

“It sends the wrong signal,” said Rep. Tom Cole, R-Okla., a senior member of the House Appropriations Committee. “It basically tells people we think this is OK or relatively harmless. It’s not. And there’s a whole criminal enterprise associated with the delivery of many of these drugs.”

And Rep. Chris Smith, R-4th Dist., said keeping such drugs illegal can dissuade people from using them.

“I start off with the strong conviction that the law is a great teacher,” Smith said. “It is important the law act out of an abundance of concern to protect people from hurting themselves and others.”

“Having punitive measures against those kinds of drugs will save lives,” he said.

Watson Coleman’s efforts follow a trend toward offering treatment rather than incarceration for nonviolent drug offenders. Former President Donald Trump signed legislation in December 2018, co-sponsored by Booker, that allowed federal judges to hand out lighter sentences to those convicted of nonviolent drug crimes.

Trump’s predecessor, Barack Obama, granted clemency to hundreds of prisoners with long sentences for drug-related crimes. And during his unsuccessful 2020 presidential campaign, Booker promised to immediately grant clemency to at least 17,000 prisoners convicted of low-level drug crimes.

And in New Jersey, former Gov. Chris Christie expanded the use of drug courts, which offer treatment rather than incarceration for nonviolent drug addicts.

“Those who are struggling should be handled by doctors and counselors, not judges and jailers,” Watson Coleman said.

  1. Dan says:

There were no laws against or penalties for using drugs for the first 150 odd years America existed….and we managed to survive as a nation just fine. Most of the laws banning use of
drugs need to disappear. They have NO effect whatsoever on the illicit use of drugs. They
serve ONLY as an excuse for Big Government to destroy freedom. The truth is the War On
Drugs is NOTHING but a cover for the real war….the WAR ON FREEDOM.
