RIP Deputy Sheriff James Blair

From ODMP comes a tragic story. What’s unusual about it was that the sheriff’s deputy was 77 years old with 50 years of service. His family must be devastated and I even feel the pain of yet another LEO being murdered.

Deputy Sheriff James Blair was shot and killed while transporting a subject from an involuntary psychiatric evaluation at a mental health facility at 3087 Mississippi 13 in Mendenhall.

The evaluation had just completed, and Deputy Blair was placing the man back into the patrol car when he was attacked. The subject was able to gain control of Deputy Blair’s service weapon and fatally shot him before fleeing on foot.

The man was apprehended the following day.

Deputy Blair had served in law enforcement for over 50 years. He is survived by his wife and grandsons, whom they are raising. He was predeceased by his daughter.

I mean no disrespect to this man who gave so much, but what I don’t understand and doubt I’ll find answer to is why was a 77 year old man still doing this job?

There are no “low risk details” in law enforcement.

Godspeed, Deputy Blair. My condolences to your friends and family.

Not only should it be questioned why this man was still doing this job at his age…but why the heck he was doing it alone. Like stated above…there are NO “low risk details” when dealing with criminals…especially those belonging in an involuntary psych ward.
It is still sad to say the least. Also, why did the scumbag feel the need to kill the officer? The scumbag disarmed the officer, could have taken his radio and locked him in the back of the transport vehicle and fled. This killing is nothing but hate for law enforcement. And where do those that are blaming cops for everything stand on something like this? Probably cheering the demise of a man who gave 50 years of his life keeping people safe. Statements such as “He deserved it” and “It’s justice for what was done to blacks” are most likely being made.

Here is what is lost on these people. They yell and scream about the existence of racism and how cops are treating all minorities horribly due to the actions of a few bad apples, yet it is they who are blaming all cops for the actions of a few bad apples.

The fact is…senseless death is a tragedy no matter the circumstances. And further violence, mayhem and murder is not the answer. They claim to want peace, but are demanding it thru senseless violence and murder. Where is the ration and reason?

    Condolences to his family.
